The Epidemic of Conducting
Updated: Sep 25, 2020
In writing my PhD thesis about Rimsky-Korsakov, I came across an essay that he wrote about conducting. Coincidentally, the title is pertinent to our current COVID-19 crisis. It seems to have never been published in English before so I have done a translation. It is a very interesting read and it has much advice and insight that still remains applicable today. Written in 1892, it stands alongside the more well-known essays of Wagner and Berlioz as a testament to early thoughts on conducting.
